Getting started in the UK |
|
 |
We realise that not everyone comes to Europe just to further their engineering career but even if travel is high on your list of priorities, and irrespective of your age and experience, we have something to offer you. We aim to provide support so that you can make the most of your engineering experience here. There are numerous engineering institutions in the UK specific to certain fields (see our links section) but Engineers Australia, UK Branch has the advantage of offering broad appeal and fellow Australian members to meet!
If you are considering making a move to Europe, or have just arrived, please feel free to contact us about what it is like to work and live here.
It is important to spend time on your career development while you're here. For all members we provide continuing professional development (CPD) through a range of interesting talks and site visits. Of course these are quite informal, social events, with a range of drinks and food provided too! Members are of all ages and backgrounds and these events also give you the chance to do a bit of networking and meet new people. Please refer to the calender of upcoming events and get in contact with us- you are most welcome to join at anytime. The "previous events" section will give you an idea of the nature of recent events, such as the site visit to Wembley Stadium.
For graduate members we hold a “Getting CPEng” session. The graduates page has more information about getting chartered and we are also happy to answer your queries at anytime. More informally, being part of Engineers Australia, UK Branch, means that you can discuss your career options and development with people like yourself.
Another event is the annual “family outing” when we visit a place of engineering interest and usually in fine Aussie form, also have a bbq. Finally, one of the highlights of the year must be the Christmas soiree, held with IPENZ. This is a fantastic night at the amazing venue of either NZ House (offering breath-taking views over London from the penthouse suite) or Australia House (and its grand setting).
